“Rooted and Grounded in God’s Love”

On Thursday, January 29, 2026,
seven RSCJ, who are in Rome for probation
(a period of intensive preparation for final commitment),
received their name and devise.

It is a tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart, from the time of Sophie, that we are given a name and a devise chosen for us as a probation community, which marks our group and serves as a call and a reference point for each one as we begin our journey as finally professed RSCJ.

Today, Superior General Claire Castaing RSCJ gave this probation group their name and devise:

Listening to each of you…we have sought to discern a name that can express your call and your sending

The name we have chosen for you is:

“Rooted and grounded in God’s Love”

And the devise:

Called and sent to live and act as One Body for mission.

She likewise shared some points that speak not only to this probation group, but to all of us who are invited to work together across boundaries, reaching out and attending to each other, inspired by our diversity and the grace of our vocation.

In a world marked by violence, division, and fear, you are called to replace violence with love, to give love for Love’s sake, to praise God with thanksgiving and service, so that the fire of Christ’s love may continue to reach the hearts of young people and rekindle their hope.

You have lived as a community on mission; a common life marked by prayer, rereading, reflection, and sharing, welcoming what each one brings from her history, her culture, her own way of following Christ. In this diversity, you have discovered a unity that does not deny differences but transfigures them. We listened to you share how the experience of being One Body is not an idea, but is made up of experience, a common journey, and concrete actions.

As religious of the Sacred Heart, you are sent to make present, in every situation, the love, tenderness, simplicity, but also the kenosis of God. It is this daily incarnation of love, often humble, hidden, silent that humanizes the world and rejoices the heart of God.

We pray for this probation group and thank them for sharing with us the graces that they have received.
